Long: Dickey has helped shape this community

Posted

It has been interesting reading all the letters to the editor here lately supporting Mayor Dickey for re-election. She is rightfully praised on many levels by most. What is most impressive about our current mayor is her history and credentials as a contributor to the town we enjoy today.

Ginny Dickey has not only been living here for 40 years, but has constantly played an active role in shaping the town’s reputation as being welcoming, being organized, being safe and having great schools. Her constant service to the community on boards and commissions, as a long-term school board member, town council member and now as mayor, are evidence of her dedication to the town. Contrast that to the town boards/commissions her opponents have served on.

Dickey’s primary adversary’s focus on safety proposes neighborhood patrols and watch groups, and expansion of the posse while knowing that Fountain Hills is already designated as one of the safest towns in the state.

On quality of life, he can only say that we need to preserve what we already have. No new ideas.

Finally, on the tough question of how to promote business, he can only propose an Economic Development Advisory Commission as a means to promote business in town. Economic development is something that mayors and councils and commissions have been struggling with continuously for a couple of decades and I’m sure there have already been some pretty smart and creative people considering this problem.

Finally, I value Mayor Dickey’s dedication and service to our town and appreciate her calm demeanor when mediating the inevitable problems and disagreements confronting the town council. My vote goes to Ginny Dickey.
