Verdes Habitat project nearing completion

Community effort set to deliver 28th home

Posted

In the coming weeks, the Verde Communities’ Habitat for Humanity team of volunteers will prepare to deliver its latest project in Tempe to the new owner.

This is home number 28 that the Verde Communities have sponsored. Each year since 1995 the community has done the fundraising and rounded up the volunteers to help with construction of a home.

Maria Esteban and her three children are the beneficiaries of the Verdes’ project this year. The house is one of six Habitat for Humanity is building this year on a cul-de-sac off Don Carlos Drive in Tempe.

Over the past month the Verdes volunteer crew was joined by associates from Candelaria Design who spackled and caulked, and a college group from New Jersey who began painting the interior. Ongoing work includes installing the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and hardware.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that $110,146 had been raised for the current home. That is $15,000 from the goal.

For funding questions, contact Terry Cummings, Christie Gorsline or Rod Muilenburg. Contact information is in the Verdes Community Directory.

Donations are tax deductible for 2023 as long as the check is dated prior to April 15, 2024. Checks payable to Verdes Habitat for Humanity can be dropped off at the Rio Verde Community Center Office or at the Tonto Verde HOA office or mailed to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona, P.O. Box 39730, Phoenix 85069.
