Aid heading to Houston

The Veterans Donation and Consignment Center and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507 -- 9624 Monterey Drive, behind Chase Bank -- are collecting items for hurricane victims in Houston.

Items can be left during business hours from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday morning, or at the VFW post. A truck is leaving Phoenix Friday with needed items: cleaning supplies, non-perishable food and liquids; new or gently used clothing, blankets, linens, personal hygiene items, paper plates and plastic utensils; school supplies, back packs, animal food and kennels, shoes and socks.

Checks payable to Texas VFW Foundation deliverable to the location also will be accepted.
