Council to consider assisted living plan

Posted

The Town Council will consider zoning changes for a Planned Area Development allowing an assisted living facility on Trevino Drive at Saguaro Boulevard when it meets Tuesday, Feb. 20.

The site was previously approved with a PAD for a similar use, but a new developer has taken over the property and is proposing a new plan.

Chicago-based CA Ventures is requesting changes to the PAD to accommodate the facility on a 5.75-acre site at Saguaro Boulevard and Trevino Drive, just north of Shea Boulevard.

Company representatives say they have reduced the size of the overall facility, trimming the capacity from 196 beds to 178 and reducing the size from 167,000 square feet to about 150,000.

The company has been working with neighbors adjoining the property to address some of the concerns they have about the facility.

The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the plan and is recommending council approve the requests associated with the project, and included several stipulations to be met.

The council also has a request to consider renaming the Avenue of the Fountain Plaza to Morgan Park.

The change would honor the town’s first woman, Mayor Sharon Morgan.

The council will also consider zoning changes necessary to accommodate a wireless communications facility within the town right-of-way.

A site is being considered on Avenue of the Fountains adjacent to the Park Place development.

The council agenda also includes a request for abandonment of a hillside protection easement along the rear property line at Diamante del Lago, the 13000 block of Bonita Drive.

Council presentations will include an update by Economic Development Director Scott Cooper, recognition of Sherm Abrahamson and Lynne Mott for their service to the Community Services Advisory Commission, presentation of a grant from Republic Services and its community rewards program, and recognition of the Town of Fountain Hills as a Dark Sky Community.

The Town Council meets on Tuesday, Feb. 20, a 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

This story is based on a preliminary agenda for the meeting. By law the agenda must be officially posted 24 hours prior to the meeting. The agenda is subject to change up until that deadline.
