Downtown Chabad center aims for mid-June opening

After successfully raising $120,000 in 30 hours, Chabad Lubavitch of Fountain Hills moves closer to its opening.
Rabbi Mendy Lipskier, co-director with his wife, Tzipi, said he hopes renovations in the former Gridleys building on the Avenue of the Fountains will be completed by mid-June.
A new sign designating the site as Edelman Jewish Center has been erected. In addition to being a worship and cultural center for the Jewish community, educational programs will be available to non-Jews.
Chabad of Fountain Hills opened in 2010 with three members. Membership now numbers about 100 families and has outgrown its currently leased space at 11010 N. Saguaro Blvd.
Gridleys, a former retail business specializing in office supplies, framing and gift items, closed nearly a year ago on May 31 after 43 years of operations.
Volunteers initially raised $300,000 in 24 hours in 2017 for the building fund. At the end of April, Chabad Lubavitch raised another $120,000 through an online campaign for the second phase of construction and move-in expenses. Two anonymous donors matched every $1 pledged.
Each Chabad center is supported by the community it serves. All funding for programming is solicited locally.
Chabad recognizes no differences between Jews; its goal is to serve the spiritual and physical needs of each Jew regardless of affiliation, where he or she may be, with understanding and with love.
Donations continue to be accepted through Chabad’s website at jewishfountainhills.com.
