No local AARP Tax-Aide this year

Posted

It appears there will be no free income tax help in Fountain Hills for residents this year. The AARP Tax-Aide program that has had a site in Fountain Hills for a number of years will not have volunteers in town for 2019.

AARP will have volunteers manning locations near the community. The closest locations to Fountain Hills are Blessed Sacrament Church, 11300 N. 64th St. in Scottsdale (Phone: 480-948-8370); and another location is Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale (Phone: 480-312-1700).

Also, the Via Linda Senior Center in Scottsdale, which has had tax help in the past, is reporting it will not have the program this year.

The Town of Fountain Hills Senior Services is unable to bring in a program on short notice and the Community Center lacks available private space for tax consultations.

An article in the Arizona Republic in November reported AARP needed to close Tax-Aide locations for the coming year. A number of the volunteers were leaving the program due to new reporting requirements being instituted by the AARP Foundation. The volunteers expressed privacy concerns over the new policies.
