Senior 'day trips' planned for entertainment

Senior Services, Inc. (SSI) and the Town of Fountain Hills are launching a new day-trip program for senior citizens in Fountain Hills.

The first event will be a trip to the Silver Star Theater (formerly the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater) in Mesa for lunch and a matinee musical performance of “A Christmas Carol” on Saturday, Dec. 8. Participants will receive the group rate advantage for tickets and free transportation on a luxury charter bus provided by Senior Services, Inc.

Transportation has been identified as a major concern for seniors in Fountain Hills. There are many opportunities for recreation and education in the larger metropolitan area, but driving to these events can be a deterrent to some seniors. SSI hopes that providing quality transportation will allow more Fountain Hills residents to take advantage of these opportunities.

The Silver Star Theater event is the first of at least three events for the upcoming winter season. A survey at the Community Center suggested theatrical events, spring training baseball, casinos, shopping and museum visits as popular destinations for seniors. More events will be publicized when arrangements have been completed. Suggestions are welcome.

The Dec. 8 event includes a grand buffet and matinee performance of “A Christmas Carol” for the group rate cost of $36 per ticket. Reservations can be made and tickets can be purchased through AZ Trails Travel at 480-837-8665 or in person at 16550 E. Palisades, Fountain Hills. Ask for Lenore or Sue. More information is also available at the Community Center.

The bus will board at the Community Center at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. The buffet is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The gift shop is open as well. The show begins at 1:30 p.m. and ends at approximately 3:45 p.m. The bus will return directly to the Community Center.

This service is intended for residents of Fountain Hills who are 50 years of age or above, and winter visitors are welcome. All passengers must be able to get on and off the bus independently. Walkers are acceptable. The bus can accommodate 40 passengers, so make your reservations as soon as possible.

Senior Services Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit board with funds available to assist organizations who provide services for seniors in Fountain Hills.
