Staging changes for Thanksgiving parade

Posted

Mandatory meetings for participants in the Thanksgiving Day parade have been scheduled on two dates.

At least one representative from each participating organization must attend one of the meetings. The meetings are 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, or 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, in the Chamber office, 16837 E. Palisades Blvd.

Paige Lorentzen, events and marketing coordinator, said a change in the Turkey Trot 5K route necessitated the change.

About 60 entries have registered for this year’s version of “Parada de los Cerros” that will step off at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22. The theme is “Songs for the Season.”

Participants are asked to select a favorite holiday song and apply its lyrics, theme or music to a creative float design and presentation.

Civic/business floats, equestrians, motorized entries, church affiliated groups, sports teams, marching and walking community organizations, non-profits and marching bands are welcome.

The Chamber of Commerce has hosted the annual event, the only Thanksgiving Day parade west of the Mississippi, for 33 years.
