The tradition of hosting the only Thanksgiving Day parade west of the Mississippi continues tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 22.

About 60 entries will step off at 9 a.m. in this year’s “Parada de los Cerros”.

Community groups, schools, sports teams, church and civic organizations and businesses create floats and select music to interpret the theme, “Songs for the Season.”

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 7507 will comprise the first unit. The VFW asked the American Legion Post 58 Color Guard recently placed first in a national competition to lead the parade,

A 36-foot replica float of the USS Arizona will follow with VFW members riding in cars provided by the Arizona Classic Thunderbird Club. Members of the East Valley Young Marines will join them.

Prizes will be awarded for the best presentations in several categories.

The parade route will be from El Lago Boulevard, along Saguaro to Palisades and then up to La Montana, where it finishes at Parkview Avenue.

The Chamber of Commerce has hosted the annual event for 34 years.
