Brown park

Posted

Like most residents of Fountain Hills I was surprised and pleased to see Donald Trump put on a rally at Fountain Park. As a 20-year full-time resident I have observed many changes to our community, mostly positive.

I have always been very proud of our town centerpiece, the park, with its world-class fountain. I did not attend the Trump rally, but I did watch it on TV. I watched the Trump motorcade enter town on Saguaro Boulevard. The first thing we saw from the helicopter camera was the lush green grass at the MCO reality office, and then the same as they passed Desert Canyon Golf course.

Next I saw the brown dirt and weeds around our beautiful lake. No lush green grass in sight!

When the town took over the park and fountain about 15 years ago, it was beautiful. They would overseed each fall with winter seed and it was lush green grass year-round.

Several years ago the town stopped the winter overseeding at the fountain and in the dog parks. They needed to cut back on landscaping costs due to budget problems. Now they say the gray water they use from the sanitary district has high salinity that has damaged the soil.

Why do our golf courses remain so green? We had a new irrigation system installed in our park about five years ago. Does it still work? The town council seems to have enough money to fund major improvements on the Avenue of the Fountains. These improvements impact the merchants, but little else. Fountain Park impacts all the tax payers and residents of our beautiful town.

How about the Town Council stopping the monthly debates about A-frame signs and get our park up to the standards that will make us all proud of this great community?
