Class and civility

Posted

I am proud of the three Fountain Hills residents who were responsible for bringing Donald Trump to town for a great political rally. Fountain Park looked fantastic and people from all over the country took notice of our beautiful town.

Kudos to Gary Lvov, Lina Bellenir and Phyllis Kern for their work. It was nice of the Times to bring this effort to everyone’s attention.

As I continued reading the Times, I found a disparaging letter to the editor from Tom and Marge Gerrity, who called Mr. Trump a “wacko.” They went on to smear the motives of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Mayor Linda Kavanagh and Senator John Kavanagh in regard to the Trump rally and, by extension, all of us who are Trump supporters.

I have met all three people and have the highest respect for each of them and for their dedication to our town. This cynical pair of pundits even suggested that violence and property damage would inevitably result. Of course, nothing of the sort happened. The Trump rally showed Fountain Hills at its best.

I would note that if you are going to call Mr. Trump a “wacko,” then you are also painting his supporters with the same broad brush. That’s a lot of people and, consequently, such a comment is utterly lacking in class and civility.
