Fountain Park

Posted

Recently The Times printed a letter from David Cuzela stating that the park is “embarrassing and overrated.” Steve Killingsworth replied stating how proud he is of “our unique and beautiful Fountain Park.” I completely agree with Killlingsworth.

The purpose of this letter is to note some additional features of the park that make it so outstanding. The walkway around the lake is excellent for not only walkers but also joggers. For those walking their dogs, at the restroom area water bowls have been conveniently provided. Around the lake is an 18-hole championship disc golf course that has hosted numerous tournaments.

In addition to the statues of the six presidents, there are many other sculptures located throughout the park. The xeri-garden on the El Lago Boulevard side of the park near the parking lot has a terrific collection of cacti and other desert plants. Because of the design of the 29-acre lake, it attracts many species of birds. Fountain Lake is listed by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology as a birding hotspot.

The park includes an amphitheater that sees regular use and many special events are held at the lake. Improvements to the park have been made regularly since its original construction. These improvements have been made not only by the Fountain Hills town government, but also by such dedicated civic organizations as the Rotary and Kiwanis.

In addition, the park maintenance team is always at work keeping the park clean, the grass well groomed and equipment working efficiently. At Plaza Fountainside there are restaurants and shops.

In summary, our Fountain Park is a true jewel with many attractions both for those of us fortunate to live here and also the many visitors who appreciate all the park has to offer.
