M&O

Posted

Good schools are the cornerstone of a thriving community. Supporting our local Fountain Hills schools with the resources they need to provide an excellent educational experience for our kids is vital for the future of our town, for all residents, not just those who have children in the district.

In November, FHUSD is requesting a 15 percent Maintenance and Operations (M&O) budget override (this represents a very slight increase from the current 13 percent override that has been in place since the 1990s). The school district’s M&O funds are used primarily for teacher and staff salaries.

Many Fountain Hills residents hail from other states where public schools are sufficiently funded and bonds and overrides are for “extras.” This is not the case in Arizona. Our public schools are at or near the bottom of the country for per pupil funding, so local support is absolutely critical to provide competitive teacher compensation, maintain small class sizes and support dynamic programs in our schools.
