Another win was added to the books this past week to build onto the Fountain Hills High School sand volleyball team’s 20-plus match win streak.

On March 6, the Lady Falcons hosted Arizona College Prep for a non-conference match. FHHS won the match 4-1.

Fountain Hills has no matches this week and will return to the sand on March 20 to play an away game against Chandler Prep.

Head coach Pete McGloin said he was ecstatic with the way the Lady Falcons played this week, which was noticeably better compared to earlier in the season.

“A lot of parents were coming up saying it looks like we played better than last Friday,” McGloin said. “And there’s no doubt about it. We played a really tough opponent and now we have some quality wins under our belt. I was just pleased with the pairs and how they played like they do in practice.”

One pair that McGloin pointed to was the fives pair of Ainsley Boersma and Jordan Pace.

“I couldn’t praise them enough,” McGloin said. “They were one pair that was doing even better in the games then I see in practice. They’ve worked hard on not letting their frustrations tear them down. They executed the game plan perfectly and communicated better than any of our teams.”

Boersma and Pace won their match in two sets with the first score being 21-16 and the finial set’s score at 21-4.

McGloin said he feels that all of his pairs are also improving in these early days.

“Every team was playing in the moment for the most part,” McGloin said. “We were resilient when things weren’t going our way and that is a big thing that we have been talking about.”

Now McGloin hopes that the team can keep this momentum up through the spring break match hiatus.
