It’s a new year and the Fountain Hills High School girls soccer team continues to dominate the pitch.

The Lady Falcons’ first game of the week was against Rancho Solano Prep. FHHS shut out Rancho Solano, winning the match by an impressive 13-0.

The next match for Fountain Hills was on Jan. 10 against Glendale Prep. This game was much closer, but the Lady Falcons still won by a score of 3-1.

FHHS girls soccer has three matches this week. The first was on Monday, Jan. 14, against Red Rock.

The second game is today, Jan. 16, against Scottsdale Christian Academy. The game, which will also be Senior Night, is at home and starts at 4 p.m.

The final game of the week is this Friday, Jan. 18. The Lady Falcons will travel to take on Pusch Ridge Academy.

Rancho Solano

The Lady Falcons came out of the gate kicking in this match, scoring their first three goals in the first 13 minutes of play.

Rancho Solano was able to recover from this early onslaught and managed to prevent any more goals in the first half.

“An Ashby Owen goal in the opening minutes of the second half set the tone for the rest of the match as the Falcons connected for ten second-half goals,” head coach Matt Wiehl said. “Six different Falcons recorded goals as Hailey DeVore scored a career high four goals.”

This match also marks the third shutout of the season for senior goalkeeper Bayley Dumitrescu.

Glendale Prep

By securing a win against Glendale Prep, the Lady Falcons improved their 3A Metro North region record to 3-0, but that win didn’t come without a battle.

The first half of the match ended with FHHS up by one.

“Madison George opened the scoring for the Falcons when she won a 50/50 ball on the right side and was able to slip a great shot past the keeper,” Wiehl said. “Fountain Hills was able to go into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead after Bayley Dumitrescu was able to make a great save on a ball that had been crossed in and bounced freely for a moment, nearly crossing the goal line.”

The second half opened with another Falcon goal after George sent a set-up pass to Morgan Soloman, who was waiting at the top of Glendale’s penalty box.

Then, mid-way through the second half, Ashby Owen added one more goal to the Falcons’ lead, securing the victory.
