CHURCH OFFERS FREE DIABETES EMPOWERMENT EDUCATION PROGRAM

In conjunction with Area Agency on Aging, Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West is hosting a free six-week course in diabetes education and management designed to help those in our community with pre-diabetes and diabetes, as well as their relatives and caregivers, gain a better understanding of diabetes self-care.

Classes will meet on Fridays beginning on September 15 and ending on October 29 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Program goals include improving and maintaining quality of life, increasing physical activity, developing self-care skills, improving eating habits and maintaining adequate nutrition, improving ongoing relationships between patients and their health care providers, and preventing complications or incapacities utilizing available resources. Class size is limited to 20 people and reservations must be made in advance for the full six-week course.

The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, also known as DEEP, is just one program in a series of innovative wellness opportunities being planned by Shepherd of the Hills that focus on improving the quality of life and wellbeing for all in our community.
