Work on sidewalk infill along Palisades Boulevard between Fountain Hills and Saguaro boulevards and Saguaro Boulevard between Fountain Hills Boulevard to Colony Drive and El Lago Boulevard near Saguaro Boulevard is scheduled to start on Monday, June 3.

With work starting on Saguaro Boulevard near Fountain Hills Boulevard, the approximately 180-day project includes the construction of a meandering 8-foot sidewalk, utility relocations, driveway improvements, roadway narrowing, pavement obliteration and restriping, retaining walls, landscape restoration, and sign relocation.

In March 2022, the town was awarded a $2 million federal grant to complete this project in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Transportation. This infrastructure project will include:

* Improving sidewalks and driveways

* Constructing curbs and gutters to improve drainage

* Adjusting utilities

* Restoring landscaping

* Modifying the roadway

* Replacing signs and road striping

* Adding retaining walls

Work will occur on weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and include lane restrictions.

The Town of Fountain Hills will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers, the project web page at fountainhillsaz.gov/sidewalk-infill-project, on the town’s social media, and the Fountain Hills Times-Independent. The Times Independent invites readers to submit their civil comments on this issue. Email AZOpinions@iniusa.org. Bob Burns can be reached at bburns@iniusa.org.
