In this new world where pants are too long to be shorts, and too short to be long pants, we who still live in the old world find only disrespect.
We find that no one respects or even cares about our knowledge, which is passed off as negligible or non-existent.
At first glance this statement appears to be a lament, but it is more a call for analysis of causative factors. Why does age alone signal sudden uselessness? Why is age no longer accorded the respect of having acquired wisdom?
Perhaps this is one reason wisdom is such a rare commodity in today’s world. No one considers that it could possibly be found in those who live in the past. No one believes the past offers anything of value, let alone that wisdom gained through years of experience. Thus no one knows where to look for it.
Has this always been true? Way back in the ancient past did people not seek out the advice of “a wise old man” who was in fact much respected for his knowledge? Or perhaps this is only legend.
