103-year-old WWII veteran to lead in Thanksgiving Day Parade

Former prisoner of war and active VFW Post 7507 member to lead procession

As is tradition, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507 will lead the Fountain Hills Thanksgiving Day Parade beginning at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 27, and this year, 103-year-old World War II veteran Eugene Metcalfe will serve at the front of the procession.

Metcalfe, a former Army paratrooper and prisoner of war, will ride in the parade’s designated “Command Jeep,” a restored WWII-era vehicle provided by the Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors Club.

According to VFW trustee and assistant adjutant Boe James, placing Metcalfe in the lead vehicle is the post’s way of honoring one of its most distinguished and active members.
