3 die in Fountain Hills collision, northbound SR 87 lanes reopen

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a triple fatal collision that occurred just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday in Fountain Hills

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of State Route 87 near mile post 187.

A vehicle traveling south and a vehicle traveling north collided, according to DPS.

Three passengers in the northbound vehicle were killed.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The northbound lanes of SR 87 will remained closed until further notice, DPS officials said early Sunday afternoon.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, the northbound lanes reopened, according the Arizona Department of Transportation.
