9 to 5

Dolly Parton is in the House. Well, not literally, but still…her award winning play is.

The Fountain Hills Theater opened Friday, May 16, with the musical “9 to 5” with music and lyrics by Dolly. Most likely we all remember the movie way back when in 1980. It was turned into a musical, has been on Broadway and now we have it. The play is directed by Dale Nakagawa and produced by Patty Torrilhon and will run until June 8.

It is lively and fun and the sets are amazing (Thank you, Peter). Any play with Scott Hyder (remember “The Producers” and “Boeing, Boeing”) is a treat and he does not disappoint us as Mr. Hart, the boss.

Violet, Judy and Doralee as the three secretarial ringleaders sound wonderful in their singing roles due to the talents of Kimberly Cooper-Schmidt, Amy Powers and Deanna Zaccaria. In their jobs at the company they are overlooked or hit on because they are female. Were these the good old days? They are pushed to the limit and hatch a scheme to get back at their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, bigot boss.”

After intermission, when the boss is “tied up,” the ladies take over, so go see what happens next. We all know “Women are Smarter!” I’m just saying…any dissenters out there?

See you at the theater.
