A-frames, banners on council agenda Thursday

It’s the Town Council’s turn to take up the question of extending the sunset clause for the use of A-frame signs and business banners in Fountain Hills.

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously last week to recommend extending the rules for another year.

Sign rules in the Zoning Ordinance regulate the use of A-frame signs and banners and, due to the portable and temporary nature of the signs, the council added a sunset to better monitor the use of the signs.

There have been past issues with compliance, but the council has been patient with businesses due to the former recession. This past year there was a marked improvement in compliance due mostly to the elimination of a permit requirement for the A-frames.

If the council does not approve the extension of the regulations the use of the A-frames and banners would be banned.

The council will also review and consider amendments to the personnel policies and procedures for town employees. The changes deal specifically with the manner in which vacation and personal leave are calculated and the policies regarding technology.

The council meets Thursday, Dec. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
