A little of this and a little of that

Well, here it is the end of November and where has the time gone?

It seems like most of mine has been spent in doctors’ offices or hospitals. As I said last week, I’m thankful for the good care I received from the doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic.

I tried keeping up with things by reading The Times each week.

The entire staff needs to be commended for the fine job they did, They include editor Ryan Winslett, reporters Bob Burns, Barb Charzuk and Linda McThrall (who edited the FH Community Guide and HOME edition) ad reps Brent Cruikshank, John Gibson and Duke Kirkendoll (who also did double duty on ad and page layout), graphic artists Tangie Prieskorn, Dave Jepson and Maria Circle and finally the glue that holds everything together, general manager Kip Kirkendoll.

My sincere appreciation to all of you for a job well done!

I attended my first special event in a long time when Diane and I attended the Thanksgiving Day parade.

The parade has always been one of my favorite events because you see families sitting together along the parade route. They’re waving and saying hi to their neighbors, who may be on an organization’s float. Other neighbors can be seen wishing each other “Happy Thanksgiving” from a passing company truck or other vehicle used as an entry.

It was a very good morning for weather. In fact the weather has been nothing short of fantastic throughout the fall.

Temperatures have been quite mild over the last six weeks with highs mainly in the 70s and 80s.

That all came to an end when cooler air moved into the area on Monday. I had a 36-degree reading at my house Tuesday morning and the green behind my house on the Desert Canyon Golf Course had a light frost.

I want to thank Cassie Hansen for her years of public service to the town and local organizations. When she and her late husband, Bruce, moved to the community in 1989 they soon became involved.

And I mean involved!

Between the time when the incorporation election was won and when they moved into regular offices on Palisades, The Town of Fountain Hills began to take shape in their kitchen.

Cassie was our first Town Clerk. She sang with her golden voice at many town functions.

In 2007, she successfully ran for town council for the first time and has served ever since.

It’s getting close to deadline time for the Fountain Hills & Verde Communities Telephone Directory.

If you have moved or changed your address or phone number in the last year, be sure to fill out the coupon on Page 12A and return it to us.

Return it by Dec.31.
