Well, May certainly made a statement by ending a month of mild temperatures by recording three highs over 100 degrees,
I had 109 degrees on my thermometer on Saturday. Our pool reading was 87 degrees and Diane and I went in the water to officially kickoff the summer pool season at the Cruikshank household. Now we just need a few grandkids to visit.

The Fountain Hills Times is attempting to increase its numbers.
We’d like to add 1,000 new subscribers by the end of this year. That may sound like a lot, but I think it is entirely possible. Take that figure and multiply it by the average number of people per household (2.3) and you get 2,300 new readers .
To try and reach that figure, we will try a number of subscription promotions each month throughout the rest of this year.
The first one will be The Times’ Customer Appreciation Month.
June is our anniversary month. This year will be our 41st anniversary. Our first edition was printed on June 27, 1974.
So, during the month of June, we are lowering our annual subscription rate to just $32. That‘s a $10 discount!
The offer is not only good for new subscribers but also existing subscribers who can extend their subscription by one year at the $32 rate to anyone but also to current subscribers.
This discount rate is also available to part-time residents. During the promotion period we are offering our half the year out of state and half the year for your winter home here for just $38.
Local Realtors can obtain a one-month free subscription for clients who buy or rent a home or condo in the community. Just turn in the name, address and phone number of your client to The Times office and we’ll be happy to get them started reading all about the news of their new community.
We’ll also give them a Fountain Hills Telephone Directory and a Fountain Hills Community Guide.

Diane and I are planning to go to the meeting this morning of the Fountain Hills Parkinson Support Group.
Dr. Nick Schultz is the guest speaker and his topic is appropriate for me, “Falling is not an option.”
Falls are something that all Parkinson’s patients have to deal with. We’re looking forward to getting some additional tips on how to prevent them.
The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Community Center.
-------
Ed Ciolina, a local artist who has Parkinson’s, will have an exhibit and sale of some 60 of his paintings at the Community Center through June 29.
The exhibit is called “Abstract Meditative Art.” A portion of the painting sales will be contributed to Parkinson’s research.
The public is invited to a reception this evening, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Ciolina was diagnosed with Parkinson’s some 10 years ago. He never tried painting until he took it up after attending an art class put on by the Fountain Hills Parkinson’s Support Group.
His style of painting is called “abstract expressionism.”
