Abandoned goats found in Goldfield Ranch

Fundraiser supports family of Nigerian Dwarf goats

A group of Nigerian Dwarf goats were seen roaming the neighborhoods of Goldfield Ranch just east of Fountain Hills.

All of the goats had ingested toxins, likely the result of hunger and consuming anything from weed killer, rat poison or any other toxic substance in the desert.

The horns on the abandoned goats were weak, showing signs of malnutrition.

All the goats were given antitoxins and vaccines and the female goats were given ultrasounds showing three baby goats on the way.

The goats were dehydrated and malnourished made evident by their coats, hooves and especially their horns.

While Arizona has a diverse range of wildlife, wild goats are not among the native species commonly found in the Desert Southwest.

So when a group of Nigerian Dwarf goats were seen roaming the neighborhoods of Goldfield Ranch just east of Fountain Hills, it became clear to one resident that the goats had been abandoned.

The goats caught the attention of Goldfield Ranch resident Evelyn Grace Cutting, who saw a Facebook post from her neighbor asking for help to remove five goats from his porch.
