I almost got excited when I saw last week’s headline in The Fountain Hills Times, “Adero Canyon redux,” and that trail access could open!
After living here for over 17 years and having no access to the preservation area that we taxpayers have spent multi-millions for, I thought the problem might finally be resolved.
And then I read the confusing article and looked at the poorly described map.

I think the article says that only after the MCO proposal is approved, and after the 80-acre PAD development is in process, will there be a separate hiking and bike trail on up to the preserve trailhead.
The remainder of the access road would not be improved until the rest of Adero Canyon is developed.
It seems to me that approval of the MCO plan as is would repeat the mistake made by the Town Council in approving the 2001 plan, as they did not negotiate immediate public street access to the trailhead area.
I just hope that someday, still in my lifetime, I will be able to access the trails that the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission has worked so hard to complete.
