It appears as though an anticipated weather system will arrive just a little too late to mitigate potential air pollution issues for the New Year’s weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
ADEQ has posted a high pollution advisory for Saturday, Dec. 31, and Sunday Jan. 1 for particulate pollution. Along with that Maricopa County is implementing its restrictions on wood burning fires and off-road vehicles to control smoke and dust.
The New Year’s holiday generally brings high particulate pollution due to smoke from fireplaces and outdoor fire pits as well as fireworks.
