The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has completed the Gilbert Road Bridge between the City of Mesa and State Route 87 (Beeline Highway) and has opened the entire bridge to travel, according to the MCDOT website.
This is good news for Fountain Hills residents who use Gilbert Road as a primary route into Mesa and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.
The project constructed two lanes in each direction on the bridge, a new traffic signal at the Thomas Road intersection at Gilbert Road, and new roads connecting the bridge to State Route 87 and City of Mesa. The project also features the installation of a new storm drain and a new 36-inch waterline as part of SRP’s water delivery system.

Funding for the bridge was made possible through Highway User Revenue Funds (HURF) and the Maricopa Association of Government’s Arterial Life Cycle Program, which is funded through Proposition 400, the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and the City of Mesa.
