The Arizona Republic in July 2012 had not a very flattering review of the financial management of the Fountain Hills schools.

Rather than having a bond issue to support some of the funding required for the School District, why not consider the following?

1. The district has three choice pieces of real estate in town that are not being used and probably never will be. Why not sell one or all of the properties to developers and take the income to support the financial needs of the schools? This also will accomplish a broader tax based for the community, which means that the expense is spread over a larger tax base for property tax considerations.

2. The district also has a school that will probably not be used and could be considered an asset that could be sold. We receive little information in our town about the number of students by class and the future trends that the School Board could provide. It’s my understanding that the enrollment continues to drop.

3. Currently is appears there are a number of classrooms being used for storage at the high school.

It is the responsibility of the School Board to manage the assets. Until we see some movement or information on these issue listed, I cannot in good conscience vote for this bond.
