The Fountain Hills High School marching band has had a busy season, competing and performing all over the state and earning some high marks along the way.
The 2013 band hosted more than 80 members, typically unheard of for a school the size of FHHS.
The name of this year’s show was Viva la Vida Latina, offering a distinct modern Latin vibe. The band performed its show during halftime at home football games, as well as during events like Halloween in the Hills, the annual homecoming parade and more.

This year’s show consisted of four main songs, including “Children of Sanchez,” “Americano,” “La Vida Loca,” and a hybrid “Calle Ocho” and “On the Floor.”
Along with the musicians pumping out the latin vibes, the 2013 guard crew offered plenty of entertainment as they danced, spun and twirled their way through the four numbers.
Along with all of their usual performances throughout the season, the band also took part in quite a few competitions this year.
According to band director Lynn Truby, the “fighting flock of Falcon fury had a phenomenal season.”
The first competition of the season was the Basha Invitational. The Falcons took third place overall, was awarded an “Excellent” rating, and qualified for state in its first outing.
The Barry Goldwater Invitational was next, where the Falcons earned a second place, an Excellent rating, and the Guard received the Caption awards for the highest score.
UofA Band day yielded another Excellent rating, as did the State Marching Festival.
For those looking to see the band one more time this season, the flock will be performing during the Fountain Hills Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 28, the Phoenix Electric Light Parade on Dec. 7, and the Band/Choir Holiday Concert on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Fountain Hills Community Center. Donations will be accepted at this final performance.
