Anna L. Enell, age 95, died peacefully in Fountain Hills on Dec. 4, 2016.

A Philadelphian by birth, Anna had many fond memories of her childhood years in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1938 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from Drexel University. Two years later, Anna was one of the first two women to pass the Pennsylvania CPA exam.

She worked for accounting firms in the Philadelphia area, doing business accounting and taxes, until marrying John W. Enell in 1949. In later years, she returned to accounting at a New Jersey firm and taught accounting as an adjunct college professor. Through the years, she enjoyed volunteering to help friends and family with their taxes.

The Enells raised four children, Meg Paterson of Scottsdale, Janet Enell of Fort Collins, Colo., Kathy Hofstrom (Jerry) of Fountain Hills, and Mark Enell of Alamosa, Colo. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Anna was always an active volunteer in church, school and community activities. For 10 years, one of her more interesting volunteer endeavors was helping to establish and manage a program to bring performing arts from New York City to the grade school children in Wayne, New Jersey.

Another activity she cherished was planning and chaperoning a Girl Scout tour of Europe in 1967.

Anna and John traveled widely in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, the Far East, and South America. Many of the places they traveled were in conjunction with John’s career as an industrial and quality management engineer.

John died in 1993 while they were living at the Renaissance Retirement Community in Cleveland, Ohio. Anna loved to travel to new places and continued to take trips with family and friends, adding the Mediterranean, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Hawaii to her list of destinations.

Anna moved to Fountain Hills in 2003 to experience the sun and beauty of the Arizona desert. She enjoyed bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, the “arts,” and most of all meeting new people.

She was known for her smile and positive attitude. While a resident at Fountain View Village, she was an “Ambassador” who greeted new residents and the treasurer of the Resident Council.

Anna will be dearly missed by family and friends. The family thanks the staff at Sunny Hills Assisted Living and East Valley Hospice for their attentive care in recent years. A private service with be held at a later date.
