Plenty of prizes will be raffled for free as part of the third annual Fountain Hills Bike Safety Rodeo.
It will be held Saturday, April 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the McDowell Mountain Elementary School campus on Fayette Drive.
Designed primarily for kindergartners through fifth graders, the bike rodeo will include safety inspections of bicycles, bike helmet checks and safety-oriented obstacle courses designed to teach safe riding practices and the rules of the road.
The Noon Kiwanis Club is organizing the bike rodeo in cooperation with Fountain Hills Bikes and the Fountain Hills Unified School District.
The mission of Kiwanis International is “serving the children of the world.”
Club President Bernie Hoenle, himself an avid bicyclist, said, “One way to serve children is to help them be safe in today’s world.
“Riding bikes around town should include following the rules of the road and being aware of safety issues such as wearing helmets and obeying traffic laws.
“That’s what this bike safety event is all about.”
The Noon Kiwanis Club and Fountain Hills Bikes are working together to come up with some great free raffle prizes for participants.
Participation certificates will be given to all riders.
Hoenle is chairing the rodeo.
“We’re anticipating a greater turnout this year, with the warmer weather in April, and we hope this event becomes bigger and better each year,” he said. “We switched the venue to McDowell Mountain School to hopefully boost the number of participants.
“We thank the School District for its help and cooperation in this event.
“This is intended to be a fun and educational event all at the same time.”
Refreshments and snacks will be available.
