I read with interest the Town Council “discussion only” about the possibility of a public safety fee that would be applied to each parcel of property in the town.

I suppose, at some level, none of us really want to have another fee added to our yearly living costs. This idea, however, sounds both appropriate and responsible.

It is appropriate for the Town Council to propose and take action that provides funding for the services we all take for granted but involve real and ongoing costs. These costs need to be spread across the spectrum of individuals, families and businesses served. These costs are every day, every month, all through the year. A public safety fee gets it done!

I want to commend the Town Council on their quest to be responsible, not just in managing carefully current revenue sources, but in finding ways to enhance revenues! The Town Council needs some freedom to operate this town from the position of knowing we are a people of abundance rather than a people of austere scarcity.

I want to encourage the council! And I want to encourage all of us who enjoy living in Fountain Hills to support their efforts.
