Aquatic benefits

Being involved in aquatics nearly my entire life I was once again excited to consider the possibilities of a public pool being built in Fountain Hills, I say once again because as a 30 year resident of Fountain Hills this isn’t the first time that this subject has been brought to the table.

The benefits of an aquatic center don’t just include activities for children (swimming lessons and play time). The opportunities that exist if the right center is created are innumerable. One letter leads you to believe that we will have the next Wet ‘n Wild. What a mistake that would be and those who are spearheading this project know that.

What is possible is a facility that would allow all ages to benefit from its existence. While our community is aging, it is still active. Isn’t it a shame that our residents have to go to Scottsdale to train? Masters swimming, triathlon training, youth swim team aging 6-18.

The health benefits of aquatic exercise are second to none. It is universally accepted that physical activity is good for health and reduces mortality rates. Water activity is the right solution for the aging and growing population who are less prone to exercise. Reports from The Arthritis Foundation and the Arthritis Care Research prove that hydrotherapy even in the smallest doses does amazing things for your joints, body and mind.

Even if you have a pool in your backyard you aren’t going to be heating it year round to take advantage of those health benefits it has to offer.

There is a great opportunity to provide something that both young and old can benefit from. In addition to the safety and health aspects there will be opportunities for members of our community to gather, meet, and socialize with one another.
