Aquatic Falcons take third place

The Fountain Hills High School swim team has only competed in tri-meets so far, and they faced ALA – Gilbert North and Higley Thursday, Sept. 14.

The Falcons took third against two larger teams, and they set good baseline times early in the season.

The Evans’ brothers accounted for five first- and second-place individual finishes. Freshman Kaiya Evans took first place in 100m butterfly (1:01.32), and senior Keian Evans earned first in 100m breaststroke (1:08.87). Keian also placed second in 50m freestyle (23.19), and junior Avery Evans took second in the 200m Individual Medley (2:23.94) and second in 100m free (57:00).

Aquatic Falcons take third place

The Fountain Hills High School swim team has only competed in tri-meets so far, and they faced ALA – Gilbert North and Higley Thursday, Sept. 14.

The Falcons took third against two larger teams, and they set good baseline times early in the season.

The Evans’ brothers accounted for five first- and second-place individual finishes. Freshman Kaiya Evans took first place in 100m butterfly (1:01.32), and senior Keian Evans earned first in 100m breaststroke (1:08.87). Keian also placed second in 50m freestyle (23.19), and junior Avery Evans took second in the 200m Individual Medley (2:23.94) and second in 100m free (57:00).

The boys 200m free relay team took second (1:40.44) and was four seconds away from a school record (1:36.15). Senior Brendan Davies pushed himself to swim the 200m freestyle for the first time (2:21.75), and freshman James Fessenden almost beat 30 seconds on his 50m free (31.16).

Fessenden also swam the 100m free (1:10.25), and junior Jacob Sommerschield swam 100m breaststroke (1:28.79). The girls 200m medley relay (2:37.59) and 200m freestyle relay (2:32.28) both earned fourth place.

Head coach Patti Schultz brought six girls to the meet, and four were underclassmen. Freshman Ellie Vickers swam the 100m free (1:18.96) and the 100m breaststroke (1:42.37), and fellow freshman Katherine Kolesnikov swam the 50m freestyle race (40:18).

Sophomore Natalie Owers took fourth in the 100m butterfly (1:11.87) and third in 100m backstroke (1:09.50). Owers swam a personal record in the 100m backstroke at state last year and came close to her time (1:07.91).

Sophomore Ryan Miller took fourth in the 50m free (36:00), and senior Julia Owers placed fourth in the 100m free (1:07.53). Fellow senior Elizabeth Franzone swam the 100m butterfly (1:28.69) and 100m breaststroke (1:48.45).

The Falcons competed against Marcos de Niza and Cortez high schools after press time Thursday, Sept. 21. The Falcons swim in the Green and Gold Invitational Saturday, Sept. 23, and they face Independence High School Thursday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m.
