Arlie Bernice Denomme

Arlie Bernice Denomme, age 84, of Fountain Hills peacefully passed on Jan. 14, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Harold; devoted mother of Carole (Terry) Bruckman, Sandralee Berry, Susan (Daniel) Ziegler and Anne (Paul) Farrell; and sister of Erla Hands. She will be missed by her deeply loved grandchildren, Joelle, Vaughn and Quinten Bruckman, Calum and Colette Farrell. She was predeceased by her sisters, Shirley Pearson and Elizabeth Struthers, her brothers-in-law, Stanley Struthers and Ronald Hands.

Arlie served many years as the materials manager for Environment and Natural Resources Canada. In 1991, she moved to Fountain Hills where she embraced her new home in the desert and the love was mutual.

Her personal life was centered on volunteering and fundraising, which gave her decades of pleasure. She served as president of the Four Peaks Women’s Club in Fountain Hills. She was a longtime board member of the Fountain Hills Theater, the Daughters of Isabella, the Fountain Hills Republican Club, a delegate to the NPOA for Platt 505D and clerk for Maricopa County elections.

Arlie was historian with the American Legion Post 58 Auxiliary, served on the executive board and as Sergeant at Arms.

Arlie’s generous community involvement led to the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce’s first Community Service Award in 2003, the Prism Award from Fountain Hills Theater for 2006–2007, the Republican of the Year Award in 2012 and the River of Time Museum Hall of Fame award in 2014.

Arlie enjoyed gardening and photography. She traveled with family and friends and was not shy to invite everyone along on her next adventure.

Arlie will be buried in the Preston Public Cemetery, 755 Fountains Street, Preston, Ontario, Canada.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 58 Auxiliary, 16837 Parkview Avenue, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268. Checks should be addressed to the American Legion Post 58 and kindly state “Arlie Memorial” on the memo line.

A Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Ascension on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. A celebration of Arlie’s life will follow at the American Legion Post 58 Auxiliary, 16837 Parkview Avenue, Fountain Hills AZ 85268 at 1 p.m.
