Former Maricopa County Sheriff and Fountain Hills resident Joe Arpaio will forever take his place in the long line of judicial history.
He was found in criminal contempt of court for violation of an order to stop profiling suspects for potential immigration violations and then turning them over to the customs officials for deportation.
Federal Judge Susan Bolton refused to grant Arpaio a jury trial and instead tried him from the bench and found him guilty of the contempt charge.

Arpaio responds to dismissal of charges

Former Maricopa County Sheriff and Fountain Hills resident Joe Arpaio will forever take his place in the long line of judicial history.
He was found in criminal contempt of court for violation of an order to stop profiling suspects for potential immigration violations and then turning them over to the customs officials for deportation.
Federal Judge Susan Bolton refused to grant Arpaio a jury trial and instead tried him from the bench and found him guilty of the contempt charge.
The former sheriff had not been sentenced on those charges when President Donald Trump pardoned him for what was a misdemeanor crime.
After the pardon Bolton was asked to dismiss the original charges against Arpaio.
On Oct. 4, Bolton dismissed the guilty verdict with prejudice, meaning they cannot be reinstated.
Arpaio says there is still a “real story” to come out with regard to how he and others were treated by the court.
“Two others who live in Fountain Hills lost their jobs because of this,” Arpaio told The Times. “We will let people know what this whole scenario is. That is coming soon.”
Arpaio said he has been pretty active politically since his pardon by President Trump. He said he has been out doing speeches and endorsements of other candidates.
“I’m hearing from a lot of people who support me,” he said. “That makes me feel good.”
