Artificial turf

We think someone forgot to do their homework before deciding to put a bond vote on the ballot that includes installation of artificial turf on the high school football field.

These are just a few things we learned by doing a Google search:

1. Artificial turf causes a higher percentage of knee sprains and ACL sprains than natural grass.

2. Artificial turf is a breeding ground for germs and must be disinfected regularly.

3. Long-term costs are higher than natural fields.

4. A majority of NFL players prefer natural grass.

5. Artificial turf has an extreme temperature build-up on warm-sunny days. If air temperature is 94 F, Bermuda grass will be 104 F and synthetic turf will be 165 F.
