Arts on the Desert welcomes three artists Saturday, Jan. 13, at The Gallery on the Way with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on the campus of Saint Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church, 12990 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale.
Claudia Smith, Gilat Ben-Dor and Kristin Wesley are the artists who will showcase contemporary mixed media fine art.
Claudia Smith is a lifelong artist and former high school art teacher.
Smith finds inspiration for her work in found items from nature. Smith says her inspiration can come from something as light as a feather or something as heavy as a piece of weathered wood. Her collection started from a fossilized snail. According to the press release, Smith is a Fountain Hills resident. Her work can be found in the Scottsdale Civic Center and in Scottsdale and Phoenix art galleries,
Gilat Ben-Dor’s artistic work reflects a philosophy of passion and joyful living, a press release read.
Her focus is on color and embellishments and themes of women, music, society, the arts and nature.
Ben-Dor’s works with watercolor and ink, hand-painted silk and high texture canvases. Her work is exhibited locally and internationally, recently at The Only Gallery in Phoenix.
Ben-Dor is an author, university faculty member and public speaker.
Kristin Wesley is a community-based public artist who uses biomorphic imagery using gardens and plants as a metaphor for life, the release said. Wesley also uses repurposed found objects to create sculptures.
Wesley is a teacher, art conservator and founder of Roosevelt Artworks.
At her studio on Grand Avenue in Phoenix, she creates multi-media art and experiences for galleries, collectors and events.
Admission to this event is free and open to the public. This show is being held in recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month.
The Gallery on the Way is located at 130th Street and East Shea Boulevard.
