On Saturday, April 15, at Church of the Ascension, residents can take part in an old eastern European tradition; the blessing of the Easter food baskets.
The custom is dear to families from Chicago, Milwaukee and cities with large populations of Polish descendants. Everyone is invited. Bring your basket at noon on Saturday to Ascension’s front porch.
Last year, over 50 families brought baskets filled with the foods they planned to eat on Easter Sunday. Baskets included sausage, ham, eggs, cheese, bread, wine, even treats for the family pets. Many people decorated their baskets with ribbons and covered with a linen cloth.
