The multiple Tony Award-wining theatrical tour-de-force, Assassins, opens at Fountain Hills Theater Friday, Nov. 4.

The musical by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman stays with Sondheim’s signature blend of intelligent lyrics and beautiful music with a panoramic story of the country’s culture of celebrity and the violent means some will use to obtain it, embodied by America's four successful and five would-be presidential assassins.

Assassins opens Nov. 4 and plays through Nov. 20. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Individual tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for children 17 and under. Seniors receive a $5 discount on all Thursday performances. Group rates and student rush discounts are available.

All performances are at Fountain Hills Theater at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd. Tickets are available through the Theater Box Office at 480- 837-9661 x3 or by visiting fhtaz.org. Box Office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny, Assassins is perhaps the most controversial musical ever written. Assassins lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate presidents of the United States, in a one-act historical revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience.

Sondheim and Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking the audience on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.

Producer Patty Torrilhon advised that the play has adult language and content.

Assassins is directed by FHT’s Artistic Director Peter J. Hill, musically directed by Jennifer Whiting and choreographed by Noel Irick.

It stars Chad Campbell, Chris Chavez, Don Crosby, Sky Donovan, Chris Fidler, Nick Hambruch, Ryan Jordan, Casey Karapetian, Matt McDonald, Libby Mueller and Michael Stewart.

The production also features Colleen Corliss, Connor Klein, Leah Klein, Andrey Lull, Henry Male and Lew Myers.
