The annual ASU Lecture Series at the Verde Communities will open Tuesday, Jan. 9, and continue each week through Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Community Church of the Verdes. Each program begins at 4 p.m.

The lecturers scheduled this year include the following:

*Jan. 9: The Future of Energy – Is change really possible? Presented by Professor Gary Dirks, Senior Director, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Future Laboratory, and Light Works.

The annual ASU Lecture Series at the Verde Communities will open Tuesday, Jan. 9, and continue each week through Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Community Church of the Verdes. Each program begins at 4 p.m.

The lecturers scheduled this year include the following:

*Jan. 9: The Future of Energy – Is change really possible? Presented by Professor Gary Dirks, Senior Director, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Future Laboratory, and Light Works.

*Jan. 16: Leprosy, The Black Death, and the White Plague: What ancient DNA tells us about Pathogens with Professor Anne Stone, Regents’ Professor, Center for Evolution and Medicine School of Human Evolution and Social Change.

*Jan. 23: The Role of Adjudication in Addressing Climate Change, with Professor Daniel Bodansky, Regents’ and Foundation Professor of Law, Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.

*Jan. 30: The Law of War: What is it, and how does it work? with Professor Daniel Rothenberg, Co-Director, Future Security Initiative, School of Politics & Global Studies.

*Feb. 6: normally saved for the final presentation of the season, the performance with Musical Storytelling, from Vivaldi to Vaughan Williams will be performed with Professors Katherine McLin, violin, and Andrew Campbell, piano, School of Music, Dance and Theatre, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

*Feb. 13: Fixing American College Sports: An Opportunity for Higher Education with Professor Victoria Jackson, Sports Historian, School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies.

*Feb. 20: Two Decades of NASA Satellite Observations of Changing Water Availability, and Implications for Arizona with Professor Jay Famigliatti, Chief Scientist, Arizona Water Innovation Initiative, School of Environment and Sustainability.

*Feb. 27: Landscapes of Extraction: The Art of Mining in the American West with Professor Betsy Fahlman, Art Historian, School of Art.

All Verdes residents and their guests are invited to attend the lectures. Lecture series is organized by Frank Haggard.
