Is our democracy at risk?

Have you ever known a time when so many well-respected experts in different fields (journalists, historians, economists, scientists, psychiatrists, environmentalists, educators, etc.) from all sides of the political spectrum have posted, written and spoken out with such urgent concern for our country’s future under a president they consider extremely dangerous and unfit?

Do you recall any other time when a leader of this country so continuously contradicted and denied his own statements – previously made and recorded – in blatant denial in the face of proven facts?

Is our democracy at risk?

Have you ever known a time when so many well-respected experts in different fields (journalists, historians, economists, scientists, psychiatrists, environmentalists, educators, etc.) from all sides of the political spectrum have posted, written and spoken out with such urgent concern for our country’s future under a president they consider extremely dangerous and unfit?

Do you recall any other time when a leader of this country so continuously contradicted and denied his own statements – previously made and recorded – in blatant denial in the face of proven facts?

Can you remember a time when our country was so angrily divided into factions, each with its own strongly held but contradicting facts? But facts are facts! The truth must stand on its own without being twisted and denied by anyone to create their own reality in order to justify destructive actions.

We must not tolerate actions and rhetoric which continue to pit us against each other, rape our environment and overturn vital safeguards in a greedy search for more and more exploitable resources and advantages for the wealthy few at the expense of the vulnerable.

Other developments which must concern us are the purposeful dismantling of our government by choosing ineffective people to lead various departments, attacking the media as “fake news,” and accusing our judicial and intelligence agencies of being corrupt and ineffective. These are the actions of a dictator; the frightening actions of Trump.

Alabamians took a stand for decency and truth when they rejected Roy Moore. We all must oppose those who would destroy our democracy, corrupt our values and skew reality in order to further divide us.
