Auto center has green light

The Town Council has approved a request that allows construction of a new automobile sales center in the downtown area at Verde River Drive and Parkview Avenue.

The applicant, Vladimir Buer, is asking for the special use permit because the auto center use requires the permit in a C-2 zoning district.

The business would be known as the Fountain View Auto Center and sit on just under a half acre on the southwest corner of Verde River Drive and Parkview Avenue.

The proposal calls for a three-story, approximately 40-foot building. The ground floor would house a showroom and offices with upper levels for vehicle inventory parking.

There would be an interior ramp to move vehicles to the upper floors. Customers would access the inventory area using an elevator or stairs.

The plan calls for the building to have an exterior finish of stucco with white and aluminum accents and large windows. The building is described as having a “sleek, modern appearance.”

Plans show a three-story glass entry, which includes a water feature facing the intersection.

The staff report states that the proposal is generally in keeping with ordinance requirements. There are no variances or waivers requested.

The Zoning Ordinance allows auto sales in C-2 zoning with a special use permit so long as all sales or repair activities take place within the building.

Councilwoman Cassie Hansen asked if there was going to be service available and where it will be in the building.

Buer told the council the plan calls for the service area to be inside the building on the first floor. He said it would not be a large service operation.

Councilman Alan Magazine asked Buer what the percentage split between new and used vehicles would be.

Buer said that would be difficult to answer because it will vary.

Buer said he expects the center to be open for business in about 18 months.
