When the Town Council meets Thursday evening it will consider directing staff with regard to a poll seeking suggestions on naming the Avenue of the Fountains median following renovations.

Staff reports receiving 228 suggestions with trends regarding specific words; “promenade” was one popular suggestion attached to “park” or “fountain” and “Avenue.”

Plaza was another word seen often in the suggestions, such as “The Plaza,” “Fountain Plaza” or “Plaza on the Avenue.”

Other words that appeared frequently in the suggestions include green, center, pavilion or commons.

There were also a number of suggestions that the area not be renamed. That was the overwhelming point of view in an unscientific on-line poll done by The Times, with 96 percent saying don’t name the Avenue median.

The council will determine whether to direct staff to proceed with a plan to rename the area.

The council will formally vote on a resolution ordering the sale of up to $8.2 million in general obligation bonds to finance the reconstruction of Saguaro Boulevard.

The Fountain Hills Farmers Market and Art on the Avenue will have its special event application renewal to hold the weekly events each Thursday from January to April 9, plus on St. Patrick’s Day.

The council will hear a presentation on the Town of Fountain Hills Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year that ended on June 30.

Finance Director Craig Rudolphy will be recognized for receiving the Certificate of Recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association for the Distinguished Budget Presentation. This is the 13th time the town has received the award.

The council will meet Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
