At around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, the Fountain Hills Fire Department responded to a 911 call of a childbirth taking place in the parking lot of the Town Hall outside the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office substation.
Crews quickly arrived on scene and found a man and woman with a newborn baby girl inside a parked vehicle. The fire crew ensured mom and baby were stabilized and in good health, and once an AMR ambulance arrived on scene, assisted in the transport of the mother to a local hospital for further care. The individuals were all in good spirits.
It appears that during labor the couple was trying to get to an emergency room, but realized they were not going to make it in time and sought more immediate help, ending up at Town Hall where the MCSO substation is located and calling 911.

“It’s not everyday you get to be part of something spectacular, like the introduction of a brand new life into the world,” said firefighter/paramedic Jay Shintaki. “Usually when we arrive someone is having the worst day of their life. However, in this instance it was one of the best days in (the) parents’ life. We were fortunate to be a part of that.”
Town of Fountain Hills Community Relations Director/PIO Mike Pelton said the town wishes the family well.
