OPINION — I read with interest the FHUSD voter guide that came in the mail about the upcoming maintenance and operations override election. It's clear – the need. Towns that lose their schools almost always sustain a substantial decrease in property values and a decreasing interest in buying there.
What is also clear – to my astonishment – is that except for the unanimous support of the FHUSD board members, not one other elected leader in Fountain Hills provided a "pro" statement in support of the override election.
But what about Mayor Friedel, or Councilpersons Watts, Earle, Kalivianakis, McMahon or Larrabee (graduate of FHHS)? No open support from members of the Sanitary District. How about County Supervisor Galvin or AZ House members Kolodin or Reim, all who directly represent Fountain Hills? Crickets from Senator Kavanagh and Congressman Schweikert, who are both locals.
