Thirty. That is the number of matches that the Fountain Hills High School beach volleyball team has won in a row after netting two more W’s in last week’s pair of showdowns.
The Falcons’ first match last week was against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy on April 3. FHHS won the match in five sets.
The next day, April 4, Fountain Hills played against Scottsdale Christian Academy and claimed a final victory, 4-1.
The Lady Falcons have two matches this week. The first match is today, April 10, away at Rancho Solano Prep starting at 4 p.m.
The next match is at home against Marcos de Niza on April 12, starting at 4 p.m. This is the Lady Falcons’ last home match of the season and will act as their “Senior Sunset.”
Scottsdale Prep
Head coach Pete McGloin said he was really happy with the way all five of his pairs preformed in the Falcons’ match against Scottsdale Prep, revealing a depth to his roster that he wasn’t expecting.
“One team I would give a shout out to for playing really, really well is Alyssa Barbagallo and Andi Bohlman,” McGloin said. “They are playing at the ones level but they are a threes team. We have three teams that could play at a one level right now. So that type of depth in our roster is making us a really tough team to beat.”
Barbagallo and Bohlman won their match in two sets, 21-1 and 21-5.
SCA
Going into the match against Scottsdale Christian Academy, McGloin said he could tell that his team was giving some extra thought to their opponent.
“(Scottsdale) is one of the best indoor programs in the state,” McGloin said. “They have a long history of winning indoor state championships recently. It is their first year playing beach but they have a lot of committed Division 1 players and I feel like word about that intimidated some of our players.”
McGloin said that it was nerves that made the fives pair lose their first match of the season, but a solid game from the fours pair got FHHS back on track.
“They (Ashley Beck and Anya Feyrer-Melk) won the first set 21-18, then lost the second 19-21,” McGloin said. “In the third set, battling it out, they won 15 to 12. It was a huge win for us.”
With the momentum back in their favor, the remaining Falcon pairs went on to claim victories and grab another overall win for the home team.
