The Fountain Hills High School beach volleyball team looks to be unstoppable as members claimed their section title this past week with two more wins.

The second match of the week was against Marcos de Niza. This was Fountain Hills’ last home match of the regular season and the Lady Falcons were able to pull off another shutout, winning all five sets.
The Falcons have two away matches to close out the regular season this week. The first was Tuesday, April 16, against Arete Prep.
The final match is today, April 17, away at Valley Christian. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
Rancho Solano
In the Lady Falcons’ first match of the week, the team had to play through something that was out of their hands: Rough weather.
“That was a really, really windy day and wind is usually the great equalizer, as we call it, in beach volleyball,” head coach Pete McGloin said. “So a less skilled team could compete with a more skilled team on days like that. So our conversations were about not having excuse or feeling victim to the wind. Yes, it’s going to be tougher to do the things we want to do with the wind, but we ended up playing it really right.”
Working through the wind, none of the Lady Falcon pairs lost a set to their opponents. The most points Fountain Hills gave up to Rancho Solano was 11.
Marcos de Niza
With Marcos de Niza being one of the new teams in FHHS’ section, McGloin had his team ready to go into a fight.
“Marcos is a big school and a program that has a lot of success in the indoor game,” McGloin said. “They play hard and have been getting better as the season moves on, so we weren’t exactly sure what to expect. We were ready for a dogfight, though.”
Ready they were. The Falcons once again won all five games and never lost a set.
This final home game also served as the team’s Senior Sunset, with a special presentation for the four seniors on the team.
Seniors Ashley Beck and Alyssa Barbagallo have been a part of the program for four years. Corrin Schulze has been a part of the Falcon squad for three and Andi Bohlman for two years.
McGloin was lost for words to describe the celebration.
“It was a really beautiful night,” McGloin said. “It was just a great senior sunset. There was a lot of love.”
