Beaulieu: Concerning the ‘water war’ in Fountain Hills

Posted

Among the erroneous statements in this article are 74 Morningside residents (not 30) have filed letters of protest challenging the town’s application to pump over 97 million gallons of water.

Contrary to the statement in the article, town officials have not met on “several occasions” with residents. The only formal meeting with residents was in November 2022 to explain the storm drainage project, which is when we first voiced concern about the impact on the Quail Wash riparian area. The town manager said our concerns would be taken seriously and was confident that something could be worked out. I have seen no further discussion of this issue with residents.

We expect the town to honor the ADWR request sent to both parties “to make a sincere effort at resolving the protest.” Morningside residents are willing to find a mutually agreeable solution, but are the town officials?
